This “What is in the kitchen” activity pack is designed to target a wide range of early language and communication skills through fun, hands-on activities. It can be used in speech therapy sessions, small group work, classroom centres, or at home by parents.

Goals targeted:

• Vocabulary development ( foods, categories, kitchen items)
• Answering WH- questions (what, where, which)
• Categorization & sorting (fridge, freezer, pantry)
• Following directions (1-3 step instructions)
• Sentence expansion & syntax (using sentence strips and prompts)
• Auditory memory (recalling and carrying out instructions)
• social interaction and pretend play (taking tunrs, role playing in the kitchen)

This resource can be used in many ways and is designed to encourage open-ended tasks, however, there are some suggested activities on the next page. Print, laminate and file the task pages. Print, laminate and cut out the sentence strips and food pictures.
