Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
Our therapy sessions are designed to address the specific needs of each child and help them make progress towards their communication goals. We use evidence-based treatment approaches, including PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), to improve speech sound production and increase speech intelligibility.
In addition to individual therapy sessions, we offer group therapy sessions to provide opportunities for social interaction and peer support. Our therapy sessions are fun, engaging, and designed to motivate children to participate and make progress.
We also understand the importance of family involvement in the therapy process. That’s why we provide education and training to help parents and caregivers support their child’s progress outside of therapy sessions. We work closely with families to ensure that therapy goals are aligned with their child’s communication needs and functional goals.
Benefits of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) Therapy
Improved Speech Production
CAS therapy focuses on improving the coordination and planning of speech movements. Through targeted exercises and techniques, therapy helps individuals with CAS develop clearer and more accurate speech production, enhancing their overall intelligibility and communication skills.
Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem
As individuals with CAS make progress in therapy and improve their speech abilities, their confidence and self-esteem often increase. The ability to communicate more effectively and be understood by others empowers them to engage in social interactions with greater confidence and assertiveness.
Enhanced Language Development
CAS therapy not only targets speech production but also supports language development. Therapists work on building vocabulary, sentence structure, understanding of grammar rules, and expressive language skills, helping individuals with CAS communicate more effectively and express their thoughts and ideas with greater clarity.
Improved Phonological Awareness
CAS therapy helps individuals develop better phonological awareness, which is the ability to recognize and manipulate the sounds of language. By focusing on sound production and phonemic awareness activities, therapy enhances the individual’s ability to recognize, discriminate, and manipulate sounds, which is important for reading, spelling, and overall literacy skills.
Better Academic Performance
As speech and language skills improve through CAS therapy, individuals often experience better academic performance. Clearer speech and improved language abilities contribute to enhanced communication in the classroom, leading to improved participation, comprehension, and success in educational activities.
Increased Social Interaction
Clear and intelligible speech facilitates successful social interactions. By addressing CAS, therapy helps individuals with CAS communicate more effectively with peers, family members, and others in their environment. This promotes meaningful connections, social engagement, and the development of friendships, contributing to a more positive and fulfilling social life.
